SXSW Gaming EXPO 2013

The Ultness crew made it out to Austin, TX to check out the SXSW Gaming Expo.  In its third year of attendance, the interactive media event is still in its infancy.  However, smaller doesn’t necessarily mean a diminished experience.

Highlights of the weekend included the Nintendo booth, which had the biggest presence on the floor (they sponsored the expo).  It was great to get hands-on experience with highly anticipated games like: Pikimin 3, Lego City: Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Platinum Game’s The Wonderful 101.  We met with David L. Politis of Xi3 Corporation as he promotes their new product line, the Piston.  You may have heard it being referred to as the unofficial Steam Box.  Click Here to learn more.

The main purpose of the convention is to promote the smaller guys.  Indie developers and innovative peripheral companies get s a chance to raise public awareness of their products.  Hawken, Tracking Point, and The Drowning, just to name a few.  We’ve also had the privilege of interview Michael Pachter (Analyst/Wedbush Securities and Pach Attack) right before his discussion panel about the state of the gaming industry.

LAN center, StarCraft II, Game Dev discussion panels, and Cosplayers.  What more do you want?  Watch the video and let us know if you interest peaked enough to visit the convention next year.

Ultness has the exclusive recording of  Telltale’s (The Walking Dead) Interactive Drama Discussion Panel.  Check it out here.
