Thats Ult Banner Ep025 Page A

With the new digital download age kicking into high gear, the flood of old school game re-releases have been hitting PSN and Xbox Live Store.  Certainly a chance to relive a part of your youth is always tempting.  But are these re-edition classics warranted, or just quick cash grabs schemes designed by game devs to play off your nostalgia?  The Ultness crew tells you what they expect from a re-release and express displeasure for those that fell short.

There is a dark side to revisiting these titles.  JD “S3prototype” tells us what grinds his gears the most is when some HD re-releases would improve the graphics, covert to wide-screen, and re-design the audio, but yet neglect to redo the cut scenes.  Certain developers would reuse the 4:3 cinematics from the original games, which of course, looks murky and completely removes him from the immersive experience.  Marcus “TheOnlyTigger” is annoyed how Hitman HD Trilogy neglected to have the very first game as part of the bundle.  No doubt do to some technical or legal reasonings, but still.

Of course there are a some titles that put forward the effort and reward long time fans.  You can see Kristina’s “MisfitGurl66” enthusiasm with Final Fantasy X|X2 Remastered due to launch soon.  Sitting on the edge of his seat, Bryan “McBallz” gives a shout out to DuckTales Remastered.  The fact that the creators were able to get the original voice cast to reprise their roles in the game is a monumental step in the right direction.

What do you think of these reissued titles?  Are they worth the money?  Please comment and let us know your thoughts on the subject.
