It’s that time of year again, summer is just around the corner and that means plenty of festivals and events to choose from right here in the great state of Texas. One that should definitely be a priority for any horror fan is Texas Frightmare Weekend presented in association with Fangoria. It has become arguably the largest horror convention in the nation gathering 10,000 attendees every year in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Texas Frightmare Weekend hosts celebrity appearances, autograph signings, screenings, exclusive parties and horror memorabilia vendors from all over the country. Mark your calendars for May 2, 3, and 4 for Texas Frightmare Weekend!

I had the pleasure of attending this horror convention last year and I can honestly say there is nothing like it. Seeing this many people gathered to celebrate all things terrifying and gruesome was quite an experience! There were so many great costumes to marvel at while walking the floors full of endless vendors, celebrity guests, and filmmakers. I also got to meet one of my favorite actors Tom Skeritt who was joined by a few of the other actors from Alien for an Alien Reunion. The convention also had some of the stars from the hit show The Walking Dead in attendance for fans of the series to meet and greet. The greatest moment of the weekend for me, though, was being able to sit down and actually interview Glenn Morshower who is mostly known for his character Agent Pierce in 24 and more recently the hit show Dallas. Check out my coverage of last year’s event!

As May 2nd grows near, I begin to wonder how the convention will be able to top all that they had to offer last year but it is safe to assume that they have upped the ante in a big way. The guest of honor is none other than the master of horror himself George A. Romero. The other guest of honor is Tobin Bell AKA “Jigsaw” from the Saw franchise. They also have eight of the cast members from the Terminator series including Linda Hamilton in attendance to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise. The celebrity guests don’t stop there though, in true Texas Frightmare tradition Chandler Riggs and Scott Wilson will be appearing for all the Walking Dead fans. Another celebrity guest that is sure to excite horror fans is the announcement of Linda Blair from the iconic and genre-defining film The Exorcist.

It’s not all about the celebrity guests, though; there will plenty of horror film screenings taking place at the Alamo Drafthouse, and two world premier screenings of Circus of the Dead and Gun Woman at Texas Frightmare Weekend. If you’re looking to be a little more involved in the festivities, there will also be a TFW horror trivia contest where you can test your knowledge of horror movies from the obvious to the obscure. Make sure to stick around after the convention Friday night for the after party, Night of the Demons, which includes a cash bar, DJ, dance floor and a costume contest where prizes will be awarded for those who are dressed to impress.

Hope to see you there!
