The AGE OF ULTRON Has Begun!

The latest extended trailer released with Agents of SHIELD

Last week the internet exploded with  the long anticipated trailer for Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Originally set to premiere on television with Agents of SHIELD this week, the trailer leaked online this past Tuesday. Marvel then released an HD trailer in response. And just to show how cool they are, Marvel added even more footage to the Agents of SHIELD preview; Offering fans more to chew on and speculate.

As you’ve seen in the trailer, the big bad this time around in ULTRON. Built by Hank Pym, Ant-Man, in the comics, Ultron is a self repairing/evolving machine determined to eradicate his fleshy creators and would be masters. Here in the film however, Ultron is created by Tony Stark, most likely as a peace keeping machine meant to take some of the weight off the Avenger’s shoulders. But as most things go with self aware robots, the plan takes a dark turn.  Ultron will not be alone however, also joining him are new comers Scarlet Witch,(Elizabeth Olsen), and Quicksilver,( Aaron-Taylor Johnson). Twins gifted with superhuman abilities. According to rumor and limited plot details, the twins will work against the Avengers for a short time before presumably turning on Ultron. Also absent from the trailer was the Baron Von Strucker scene that was revealed in the post credits of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A scene which gave us a glimpse of the captured twins. Also we still have yet to catch a glimpse of The Vision played by Paul Bettany.

What’s interesting about this trailer, besides James Spader’s creepy analogy with Pinocchio, is the level of emotional weight and energy presented. Writer and director Joss Whedon had said he wanted to go for a more emotional psychological battle for the team and from what’s been seen, he may have hit the nail on the head. But that still didn’t keep him from showing off some of the epic action scenes, including one with the long awaited Hulk Buster Suit for Iron Man.

Personally I’m trying not to get too hyped for this movie, but it’s hard not to when you make a trailer this cool. Some movies suffer from showing too much and their trailers end up cooler than the actual film. With Avengers I have a feeling they haven’t shown their full hand yet and I have faith in Joss and crew to pull off a stellar film. I think what has me anxious more than anything, is that this is supposed to be a game changer for the Marvel universe. Kevin Feige released a statement recently stating that after this film the Avenger’s roster will change. Now I’m 98% sure no one will die in this film as most the actors’ contracts hold out until Avengers 3, which has now been split into two films titled Avengers: Infinity Wars.

Not to mention the full reveal of Marvel’s phase 3 being released including Captain America: Civil War, which to me indicates that the board and pieces are about to get flipped over after the events of Ultron. I only hope that as we see more and more footage, the film is able to live up to the hype while still concealing plenty of surprises.

The trailer released last week, in case you missed it!
