Ex Machina Trailer

From Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Dredd, comes an eerie tale of lust, intrigue, and man’s need to play God. Domhall Gleeson plays Caleb,  a young programmer asked to participate in evaluating a new groundbreaking AI dubbed AVA. However as time goes on Caleb’s feelings for Ava become more than just evaluator and automaton. Caleb begins to develop emotions for the all too human-like AVA. Soon doubts spring up about what true intentions of the experiment is about, and who is actually the real test subject.

I think this looks awesomely creepy. I’ve always been a big fan of the robot apocalypse, since Michael Biehn first screamed “THE MACHINES!!!!” in Terminator.  Though not necessarily an apocalyptic film it definitely gives off the feel of a cautionary tale. From what is shown, audiences are definitely in for a disturbing thrill ride commenting on the human condition and how our own ambitions to create will probably get us all killed… by anatomically correct sex bots nonetheless. Director Alex Garland has quite a few notable notches under his cinematic belts, so I’m not too worried the film will disappoint. Not to mention the film is being handled by A24 who seem to have a knack for distributing quality indy films. Be sure to check out Ex Machina April 10, 2015.
