Far Cry 4 Launch Trailer

A new trailer for Ubisoft’s Far Cry 4 gives us a rundown on all of the game’s features – both gameplay and narrative wise. First, we’re given a quick summary on why we’re in Kyrat in the first place, as our main character Ajay Ghale (pronounced: Ahh-jay Gah-lay) returns to his parents’ native land in order to fulfill her wishes by spreading her ashes there. He comes to realize that his mother planned on him returning in the midst of a civil war between two warring factions: one side making an attempt to modernize Kyrat and the other is more of a traditionalist. Ultimately, their endgames are the same: they just want to dethrone the island’s ruthless self-proclaimed “king”, Pagan Min, and gain control. To be honest, I’m more interested in the charismatic main villain (naturally, voiced by Troy Baker), because from what I’ve seen in the trailers, he really chews up the scenery.

The trailer also gives us a glimpse into the game’s environments. From island “paradise” to snowy cliffs to the trip and ancient Shangri-La. The latter, described as “out of this world,” looks to also require your hand in being saved, as if the numerous side quests weren’t keeping you busy enough. To help you navigate through these environments, you are given quite a lot of options. You can drive a truck, ATV, jet-ski, and snowmobile to get around, that is if fast-travelling isn’t exactly doing it for you. And whenever you get tired of your ride, you can weaponize it – to save ammo, of course.

We can see Far Cry 4 offers a multitude of ways to take out enemy soldiers. You can shoot, mortar, stab, grenade-kick and trap enemies in whatever ways you feel is appropriate to your situation. My personal favorite is the good ole’ “shoot-a-tiger-cage-and-have-it-clear-out-an-enemy-camp” trap. Speaking of tigers, they aren’t the only wildlife that get to have all of the fun, as elephants are making a big debut into the Far Cry series. From what we can see in the trailers, they’re to serve as mounts/tanks. Although, this skill can only be attained through spec’ing out your character’s skill tree. Not only can you attain the power to ride/control elephants, but you can enhance your skinning and crafting – something that players of the previous Far Cry games are all too familiar with. Far Cry 4 is set to release November 18th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC for $59.99.
