The Peanuts Movie Trailer: Will it Work?

Growing up a suburban child of the 90s, one of my favorite memories was hanging out by the Christmas tree and watching A Charlie Brown Christmas. Oh that childhood nostalgia of important life lessons brought to you by an eccentric beagle and a premature balding prepubescent. That being said, the trailer starts out pretty promising; We open on the iconic dog house with Woodstock and Snoopy, that smooth jazzy piano of the Vince Guaradli Trio kicks in, Snoopy boards his plane to chase the red baron, and the modern day pop music starts…..

Now I’m not adverse to change dear readers. All things must change and adapt to survive. But there is a matter of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. That, and the music itself feels so out of place. It doesn’t help that they end the trailer back with the original music. Almost as if it’s trying to have you forget what it just did. like they are trying to sandwich a bad thing with something comfortable.  My biggest fear though is that they will try to modernize Peanuts with audacious pop music that neither fits nor contributes to the overall tonality and theme of the film.  Tacky music, aside, the rest of the trailer is fun and the animation style stays true enough to the old hand drawn cartoons that I still feel like a kid again. It reminds me of the Lego Movie in how it resembled stop-motion. Hopefully the film won’t become reduced to an over-commercialized advertisement for the latest pop songs. Peanuts The Movie hits theaters November 6th 2015.
