Arkham Knight “Officer Down” Gameplay Trailer

In the latest trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight – delayed once again, from June 2nd to June 23rd – we’re taken to the scene of a crime, and Batman isn’t in a rush to get there, as he glides throughout the city and slowly struts to his destination. Undoubtedly, this is just Rocksteady‘s way of showing off the game’s massive scale and graphical fidelity. I can’t complain, because as far as I can tell, the game looks better here than it has in the past. Seems like that delay was worth it. We also got a look at the combat systems that we’ve been hearing about for quite some time now. Things like the “fear takedown” and the multiple takedowns started this trailer off, and while it looks like they’ve changed the combat just enough to differentiate it from past games, they haven’t messed with it too much so those who love the franchise’s famous combat will find what they’re looking for. There’s also the matter of the Batmobile sequence near the end of the trailer, where it’s tearing through the city. That was impressive, not just because we got to see the Batmobile in action for a longer stretch than in previous trailers, but also because the frame rate held up surprisingly well. That’s not to say I thought it wouldn’t, but this generation has been plagued with technical issues left and right and I’m glad Rocksteady seems to be bucking this unfortunate trend.

By the way, was it me or was that Jonathan Banks (Mike from Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) voicing Commissioner Jim Gordon? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining or anything, but it was kind of a surprise considering there hasn’t been any news about it whatsoever. That seems like one of those things that a developer would mention.

Batman: Arkham Knight is set to release June 23rd for PS4, Xbox One and PC for $59.99.
