Suicide Squad Trailer

So here it is. There has been a lot of speculation about this film, especially after those leaked set photos. But now we have a chance to see David Ayer’s vision come to life.  Our teaser first gives us a look at Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, who in truth was my first choice. Next up we get brief glimpses of the squad though, we seem to focus the most on Harley Quinn. Of course the big pay off of the trailer is at the end with Jared Leto’s Joker, but more on him in a minute. The rest of the trailer showcases costumed gunmen, the squad working in tandem with the military, a transport helicopter spiraling out of control, and of course, the Batman.

This was a pretty cool teaser if I do say so myself. I liked how it didn’t give too much away, while at the same time gave us plenty to dig our teeth into. I liked the focus on Harley Quinn; giving us brief flashes of her both,  post and pre-joker. Though the pre-Joker stuff looks like we’ll see her transformation perhaps. Since we’re on the delicate subject, let’s talk the Joker. Like many things on the internet today, people were divided by Leto’s casting, and the Joker’s design. I’m still not sold on our Hot Topic Joker, but I will say I think Leto will probably end up stealing the show. I like how his laugh was more of a hard cement mixer cackle, it’s different, but at the same time to me sounded like the Joker. How the rest of it will play out I don’t know, but the Joker was my favorite part of the trailer. Something else that interested me, was the overall tone of the trailer. It’s much less stylized visually than Batman v. Superman. Also while it’s still seems like a serious film, it’s tone feels less mythic and more gothic, like an action horror film. I’d be interested to see how successful this movie is in blending in with the other stylized DC films. Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.

A delightfully dark film and future classic.
