Far Cry Primal Story Trailer

This weekend, a new trailer for Far Cry: Primal was released and with it being a story trailer, we’re finally getting some real information as to what the story is surrounding this game.

The game’s story centers around a hunter, or beast master, named Takkar. Takkar, as part of a tribe, is under attack from someone named Ull. This inspires he and his tribe to try to build up an army of natures most vicious predators in order to take down Ull.

Now, as far as important story beats, that’s as far into detail as this story trailer goes, and you can’t fault Ubisoft for not wanting to, especially with this game coming in a little under a month’s time. I’m more interested to know about how the different characters, aside from Takkar and Ull, play their respective parts throughout this game and it’s campaign. The trailer does a lot of show-and-no-tell when it comes to the different characters that are in the game, so that should be pretty interesting. For instance, we see flashes of what looks to be a priest or shaman male and a priestess or warrior woman. I suspect maybe we’ll know a little bit more about one or the other before the game’s release, but I’m not holding my breath.

The trailer also gives us glimpses at the gameplay with the hunting aspects as well as the coming of predatorily animals. For those of you who want a more detailed look at the game’s gameplay, there’s a trailer that was released last month that dives deep into the game’s mechanics. To those familiar with the mechanics from the past Far Cry games, a lot of this such as fast travel points, weapon wheel’s and skill trees will initially seem pretty familiar to you. The gameplay of Primal, though, introduces some pretty interesting additions to the franchise’s formula.

One that’s most notable is the use of an owl as basically a drone that can be used to mark enemy and beast locations. One of the reasons this stands out to me is that the Far Cry franchise has never had a drone or drone equivalent. This looks like an upgrade that could be further along in the upgrade path that gives you the ability to tame animals. And this begs the question if taming different animals can let you do different things with them. We’ll have to find out when Far Cry Primal releases February 23, 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One and March 1, 2016 for PC.
