Kubo and the Two Strings Trailer

From the people that brought you Paranorman, Coraline, and The Boxtrolls,  comes the next big stop motion picture. Kubo is a young man who spends his time telling stories to the residents of his seaside village. But when he accidentally summons a malevolent spirit bent on destroying him and his family, he must become a hero. Joined by the Monkey and Beetle Warrior, Kubo sets out to save his family and solve the mystery of his father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever seen.

What a cool trailer. I’m a big fan of studio Laika’s work, especially Paranorman. It’s cool to see them tackling the samurai genre with their own unique fantasy spin on it. I wonder how much of the story is taken from history and mythology, much like Paranorman tackled the salem witch trials. Regardless, the sheer spectacle alone of the stop motion animation looks stunning.  The way the waves split and the origami birds–wonderful. Plus, there’s a great cast with Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, Rooney Mara, and Ralph Fiennes.  I’ll definitely check out Kubo and the Two Strings on August 19, 2016.
