Injustice 2 Announcement Trailer

With next week being E3, there was sure to be a few leaks leading up to the event. Well, earlier in the week, a few blurry photos of pre-order material for Injustice 2, the sequel to 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us, leaked. As the days went on, we saw more and more of these, as Gamestop employees were putting up images of the Injustice 2 poster online. This all brings us to the events of today, where we got the first reveal trailer for Injustice 2.

The trailer, a CG trailer mind you, gave us looks at the Flash, Batman, Superman, Supergirl and Aquaman, as they came into combat with one another. The trailer doesn’t give us a look at the gameplay, but it’s safe to say that it’ll handle more or less like Mortal Kombat. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but you could tell that the first one was made by the people who made MK. Aesthetically, it looks as though it’s bringing back the armored look from the first game – a look that was, let’s say, polarizing. I, personally, am not a fan of the look, as I think it makes some characters look unsightly (Batman, Flash) and it doesn’t make sense for others (Why do Superman and Supergirl need armor?).

While the trailer lacks in gameplay, a post on the Playstation Blog notes some additions to the Injustice gameplay formula:

“We’re doing all of the things you’d expect from a sequel. We’re adding new characters, new environments, and we’re taking environment destruction and interaction to the next level.

But we didn’t want to stop there. At NetherRealm, we always want to make games that are fun, challenging and innovative. We strive to give players a level of control that makes playing our games a truly personal experience. For that reason, we have introduced a brand new Gear System, allowing players to build their own version of Superman, their Batman and ultimately, their Injustice Universe.

The Gear System uses RPG-like mechanics to reward you with loot drops every time you play the game. With each loot drop, you will earn character-specific gear to outfit and power up your roster – changing not only the look of each character, but your fight strategy and your personal approach to every match. As you gear up your characters, you’re building a roster of DC Super Heroes and Super-Villains that reflects your choices, and your preferences, which can be vastly different than your opponents. A few play sessions in, you can expect your Aquaman to look and play different than anyone else’s Aquaman you may come across.”

Either way, we’ll have to wait for next week for E3 to see gameplay from it.

Injustice 2 is said to release 2017 for PS4 and Xbox. Notice, I didn’t say PC. I guess WB would rather not take the risk after last year with MKX and Arkham Knight.
