King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Trailer 2

So it’s been a while since we last heard from Guy Ritchie’s fantasy reimagining of King Arthur. Since then the film has gone through a bit of a makeover as far as font, tone, and even release date. Now however, our film has made it’s return in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword  trailer 2.0.

With our new trailer, the origins of our ‘streetwise’ protagonist are more revealed through tragedy. The typical righteous ruler usurped by dickish uncle, leading to the prophecy of a prodigal son’s return. From there, our trailer moves more into the hero’s journey, with Arthur questing with Guinevere  and others to stop the evil’s of Jude Law. From there we move into gritty fantasy action.

The action looks good so far. This will be Ritchie’s first romp with big CGI, so I’m curious to see how he fuses it with his frenetic style. Speaking of which, something that kinda tickled me about this trailer was excalibur in action. Every time the sword struck something a minor explosion blew people away. It was hilariously awesome! Like a Skyrim power up!  Anyway, let’s talk about our feelings.

Skeptical, I think best surmises my feelings towards this movie. On the one hand, I’m a fan of King Arthur and Guy Ritchie, but on the other hand, I’m not sure if they’re a good match here. This sort of desaturated gritty fantasy epic, doesn’t quite strike me as Athrurian. Still, I think this trailer is a much needed improvement over the last. I want this film to be good, for Ritchie’s and star, Charlie Hunnan’s, sake. My only question is can the film continue to improve its image by release date? Finger crossed.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword hits theaters May 12, 2016.
